What is Eastern Rinok?

What is the Peace Corps?

Peace Corps is an U.S. governmental organization that sends volunteers to requesting countries to teach skills and share culture. Volunteers live and work in Ukraine for two years. Learn more about the Peace Corps in Ukraine here.

What is Etsy?

Etsy is an online marketplace for crafters, artists, and collectors. People from around the world sell and buy handmade or vintage art and craft, celebrating individual creativity in design and craftsmanship.

What can I sell on Etsy?

  • Handmade items created by the seller (or member of an Etsy collective) operating the Etsy shop. Production assistance for certain intermediary tasks in some crafts may be acceptable.
  • Crafting supplies, both handmade and non-handmade (“commercial”). A crafting supply is an item that is primarily used to make handmade items you might find for sale on Etsy.
  • Vintage goods at least 20 years old. Items in this category are not required to be handmade.

How much does the Eastern Rinok training cost?

Nothing, nada, zilch! It’s free! The Eastern Rinok training program is led by Peace Corps volunteers with the help of Ukrainian technical trainers and is 100% free for anyone to attend. If someone asks for money, please contact us immediately!

Who can be a member of the Eastern Rinok team?

The Eastern Rinok team is open to Ukrainian citizens living in Ukraine, 18 years of age or older. Each team member is required to attend the program’s training courses before being admitted to the team, and agrees to abide by the rules and guidelines set forth by Etsy and the Eastern Rinok program.

Do I have to be a member of Eastern Rinok to open a shop on Etsy?

No. Anyone can use Etsy and you may open an Etsy shop without being a member of Eastern Rinok. However, if you are not a member of Eastern Rinok your shop will not be featured in any of our program’s promotional materials, and technical and language support services will not be available.

Do I need to know English to be a member of Eastern Rinok and sell on Etsy?

Whereas English is not a requirement to participate in the Eastern Rinok program, basic English is important. The Etsy website and user interface is entirely in English and you will need to read, write, and converse extensively in English. Your Peace Corps volunteer sponsor will help you write product descriptions and email messages to buyers, but you will need to be able to navigate the Etsy website on your own.

What do I need to be successful on Etsy?

  • Handmade creations, crafting supplies, or vintage goods;
  • Access to a computer with hi-speed Internet;
  • Access to a digital camera; and
  • A positive attitude!
